I suppose this is where one introduces oneself - the first post of the blog. I do realize that I'm a couple decades late to blogging, but that is because I have self-exiled from social media for my own mental health and am looking for an avenue to write silly things - even if nobody reads such silly things.
I am a professor in a biology department in Texas. An actual tenured "Professor" (I hope now? I just got a positive departmental promotion-vote, but it has to go up-the-channels). I teach "Evolution," "Genetics," I have a couple awesome grad students, and I generally (and genuinely) like my job. OH! My wife and I take college students on a study abroad course to Costa Rica every summer to teach them about conservation biology and tropical ecology.
Speaking of wife... I have one of those, and a couple of high school female-progeny (all of my humans are awesome), and a dog named Sam (I didn't name the dog. Also he's an asshole). Oh and chickens. And a couple of hives of bees. Also my wife periodically finds an occasional unlucky tarantula that she sticks in a terrarium for a while.
I envision this blog being a journal of things that I find amusing in my life. If you find them equally amusing, feel free to come back. If not, I'll be perfectly happy talking to myself without trying to impress a Zuckerberg algorithm - celebrating this new chapter of my life as a technological luddite.
